Mercury spills, including historic use contamination, present many challenges. Although not "rocket science," knowledge and experience in dealing with mercury is more complicated than many think. Mercury reacts differently in various environments when spilled or released, creating challenges both environmentally and regarding human health and safety (indoor releases). This presentation will provide the latest knowledge, experience, and techniques needed to successfully manage mercury releases in many settings. The science and chemistry of mercury decontamination will also be discussed.
