Integrating Safety and Health in Emergency Preparedness and Response Activities

Session Id: IH09-RT248 Type: Downloadable

Description

Since the attacks on Sept. 11, 2001, the United States has increased its efforts with respect to planning and preparing for emergency incidents. Such planning has resulted in the National Response Framework, which provides a comprehensive approach to coordinating federal, state, and local assets in response and recovery efforts. The increased focus on emergency preparedness and response presents new challenges for safety and health professionals with respect to the approaches taken to ensure response and recovery workers are protected, without impeding response and recovery efforts. This purpose of this roundtable is to discuss those issues and the integration of safety and health into emergency response and recovery operations. Presentations will include an overview of the National Response Framework and the Worker Safety and Health Support Annex. The presentation will then move to state operations, with a presentation on safety and health integration into emergency operations in Oregon, followed by the integration of safety and health at the local level. The final presentations will focus on the integration of safety and health in the emergency response planning at major corporations. After the presentations, the panel will assemble to take questions and conduct a general discussion
with session participants.
