NF-kB in the Development and Maintenance of Cancer

Session Id: CR09-260 Type: Downloadable

Description

Inducible and transient activation of the NF-?B signaling pathway is indispensable for normal immune function and for cellular responses to stress. This session will highlight how cancer often subverts the normal function of the NF-?B pathway. Cancer cells can accumulate genetic alterations in key regulators of the pathway, leading to constitutive activation of the pathway. Chronic inflammation can promote and sustain cancer in part by NF-?B pathway activation in the tumor microenvironment. A detailed understanding of the biochemistry of NF-?B signaling has revealed many steps that are amenable to therapeutic attack.
