A New Paradigm for Understanding Excess Cancer Risk in Underserved and Minority Populations: The Centers for Population Health and Health Disparities Experience
Session Id: CR09-166 Type: Downloadable
Description
Over the last 5 years the NIH-funded Centers for Population Health and Health Disparities have used transdisciplinary science within a multi-level framework to understand and address cancer health disparities in underserved and minority populations across the United States. The Centers each focus on different cancer sites in different population groups; however, all centers have approached the problem of excess cancer risk from "cells to society."
In this session, the results from 4 centers will be presented which will be focused in the areas of breast, prostate, and cervical cancer. Additionally, the framework of the centers will be described, and a discussion of how this framework can be used in future research to address and intervene to reduce cancer health disparities will be presented.
